Sources of Data

The data originates from 677 international historical books or logbooks covering a period from 1633 to 2008. The oldest available sources are from the late 16th (Vraye description de trois voyages, 1598) and 17th century, respectively (Greenland and Spitsbergen 17th century, La Peyrere, 1644).

Few more publications are available for the 18th century (10 sources). The majority of the data originates from publications from the 19th (341) and 20th century (248). 16 sources for historical data were published in the 21th century. The most recent source included in the database was published in 2009 (Carstensen, Jorgensen: WEATHER AND CLIMATE DATA FROM GREENLAND 1958-2008).
